cPanel Price Update
Dear Customer,
The purpose of this information is to provide you with important and timely details on the new licensing structure and pricing model that was recently announced by cPanel®. If you have active cPanel® licenses purchased through us, please continue to read below as changes are required by you and or your customer(s).
Rebranding VPS and Dedicated License Types
cPanel® is evolving their packaging names to coincide with industry terms. VPS is now Cloud and Dedicated is now Metal. The package name changes go into effect immediately.
Per Account Licensing Model
As announced in late June, cPanel® is adjusting its licensing model to be on a per-account basis. The new model allows you to purchase blocks of accounts (100, 150, 200, etc.) or you can auto-scale to add as many accounts as you would like without limitation and be invoiced for usage at the end of the billing period. For clarity, the definition of an account is an account listed in cPanel® & WHM, not a domain name. This licensing structure change goes into effect in September 2019.
Currently (and historically) we charge for the licence at cost price (e.g. we make no profit on it, sometimes even losing money). The new licencing model that cPanel have rolled out makes this impossible for ValueVPS to absorb these extra costs.
The table attached shows the pricing increase (cost price!) which means that ALL cPanel costs are rising. Any VPS or dedicated server that uses cPanel is going to see a monthly billing increase.
Some Real-World Examples
This pricing structure change may make it difficult for some clients to understand exactly what they will be paying each month, the following table should help. If not, please do get in touch and we can give you an exact price.
cPanel Licence | Accounts | Price | Additional Accounts |
---|---|---|---|
cPanel Solo Cloud | 1 | £13.40 | NA |
cPanel Admin Cloud | Up to 5 | £17.60 | NA |
cPanel Pro Cloud | Up to 30 | £26.10 | NA |
cPanel Premier Cloud | Up to 100 | £38.90 | NA |
cPanel Premier Cloud (+bulk) | 101+ | £38.90 | £0.20 |
cPanel Premier Metal | Up to 100 | £38.90 | NA |
cPanel Premier Metal (+bulk) | 101+ | £38.90 | £0.20 |
Some Real-World Examples based on our OpenVZ Starter Plan
The table below gives a better indication of how prices are going to rise. The ValueVPS Starter is our entry level VPS for cPanel (No longer available). This VPS allowed unlimited accounts and was a set price regardless of the accounts/resources used. Solo, Admin, Pro and Premier are the new cPanel fixed licence offerings. Prices and licences are shown for comparison.
ValueVPS Starter | Solo | Admin | Pro | Prem Bulk | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
VPS | £9.99 | £9.99 | £9.99 | £9.99 | £9.99 |
cPanel Licence | £12.00 | £13.40 | £17.60 | £26.10 | £38.90 |
1 x Extra IP | £1.50 | £1.50 | £1.50 | £1.50 | £1.50 |
Accounts | Unlimited | 1 | Up to 5 | Up to 30 | Up to 100 |
Total | £23.49 | £24.89 |
£29.09 | £37.59 | £50.39 |
A VPS or dedicated server with 101 or more accounts is required to have a ‘Premier Bulk’ licence which costs £38.90 per month plus £0.20 for each account above the 100 included licences. Eg. A cPanel licence for a VPS or dedicated server with 148 accounts is going to cost £48.50 on top of the cost of the VPS or dedicated server. (Licence=£38.90, Extra accounts = 48 x £0.20 = £9.60, Total = £38.90+£9.60=£48.50)
Q1. I’m not happy about the price increases, is there anything I can do? If you wish to remain using our (or any other providers’ service) as you currently do, then your only option is to accept the price increases.
Q2. Can I change to an alternative to cPanel? Yes you can. DirectAdmin is a cheaper alternative. It does not have all the same features as cPanel but is significantly cheaper. Please contact us for pricing.
Q3. Any other way I could save money? Yes, move all of your sites to our shared hosting platform. You will lose your own VPS, admin abilities, SSH and custom configuration but will not have to pay for cPanel licences.
Q4. Are these price increases benefitting ValueVPS in any way? No, the new licencing structure of cPanel creates risk, extra administration, customer unhappiness and uncertainty.
Any Questions?
How long will it take for my VPS to be set up?
As soon as your order has been verified by our billing department, your VPS will be provisioned by our service delivery team. You will then receive a welcome email 2 hours to 2 working days.
Will I have root access?
Yes, your VPS comes with full root access via SSH. We recommend you only access your VPS in this way if you have some prior experience doing so. If you need help installing software or managing your server, our support team are always happy to help, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What is the minimum contract period?
Unless arranged otherwise, all virtual private servers are on a simple monthly rolling contract, allowing you to cancel at any time by providing us with one months advanced notice. We offer discounts to customers that take a 12 month contract with their VPS. Please contact us for more information.
What if I want to cancel my server?
If you have had any problems please contact us via phone, email or support ticket. We aim to give the best service possible so if there is anything that you find unsatisfactory, please let us know. If you decide to cancel, ValueVPS will refund you in full, less any 3rd party costs (e.g. control panels, SSL certificates etc) if you let us know your intention to cancel within 30 days after your order provisioning. This does not affect your statutory rights.
Can I install a control panel or other application?
Yes, you have full root access to your VPS, so you are free to customise and install any control panel and applications that best fits your specific needs. Please note that we cannot provide support or assistance for 3rd party applications that we do not offer directly. It is recommended that you choose either cPanel or DirectAdmin if you need a control panel on your VPS.
Can you help me with migration?
Yes, we offer a free migration service as standard. Our support technicians will take care of migrating accounts and data over to your new server at a time convenient to you. Please note that we only support migrations from servers with either cPanel or DirectAdmin. Please contact us if you need to arrange a migration.
What hypervisor is my VPS hosted on?
All plans on this page are powered by OpenVZ. As this is using a shared operating system Kernel, only Linux distros can be installed. If you want to run Windows or BSD you will require a KVM VPS.
Where are your VPS nodes located?
All of our servers are located in Newcastle (UK), Maidenhead (UK) and Roubaix (France). Newcastle is the hub of our operations and over 90% of our clients choose to be hosted there.
